Convocation Ceremony of the PGPBA, Batch 2008-2010
The convocation ceremony of the batch 2008-2010 of students of PGPBA of the Indo-German Training Centre, Chennai was held on April 26, 2010. The ceremony, helmed by the Regional Director, IGTC, Mr. T. R. Gopalan, was well attended by the student community and their families, academicians, members of the IGCC and IGTC fraternity, partnering and sponsoring organizations, and the media.
The ceremony was initiated with the Director-General of IGCC, Mumbai, Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke welcoming the gathering and provided an insight on the trade relations between India and Germany and IGCC’s role in facilitating cooperation and collaboration between German and Indian organizations. He reaffirmed his faith that IGTC provides a valuable service to aspiring young managers and urged them to learn to adapt themselves to the dynamic world around them. He also revealed IGTC’s plans to open a Centre in the east, in Kolkata.
The German Consul-General, Mr. Hans-Burkhard Sauerteig carried forth Mr. Steinruecke’s optimistic outlook on the reviving fortunes of the global trade market. Mr. Sauerteig highlighted the relevance of adopting Germany’s excellent dual-system based education and skills development training in the current dynamic global market. Dr. L S Ganesh, Head of the Faculty of Management Studies at IIT Chennai, in his convocation address, exhorted the students to follow the Indian work mantra of Work is Worship, which he believes finds parallels with the German work ethic of excellence in all activities. Dr. Ganesh encouraged the students to adopt the fundamental responsibility of achieving excellence in their respective spheres- a responsibility enshrined in India’s unique constitution. This path to excellence and the ability to adapt to the ever-evolving world around them, he stated, is bound to put India on the path to growth and prosperity, including an opportunity to share their knowledge with other members of the society.
The guest of honour, Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Government of TN, Dept of Industries, commended the initiatives of IGCC and IGTC, especially for their activities in the state of Tamilnadu which ranks high as the state with the highest concentration of industries, manpower and investment. He advocated the need to develop young managerial talent and drew parallels with the Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing Programme (VLMP), an initiative of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council.
The German Ambassador to India, H.E., Mr. Thomas Matussek described the close interaction between Germany and India as they work together on global and regional issues of mutual interest. He strongly advocated the need for India to leverage its immense human capital, which he believes, when complemented by the vocational training excellence provided by the Germans, would propel both nations forward in global trade and other spheres. He also briefly touched upon the themes that have been created to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relationship between India and Germany (2011 will be celebrated as ‘The Year of Germany in India' and the year after that as ‘The Year of India in Germany').
Each of the dignitaries then proceeded to award the Post Graduate Program in Business Administration certificates to the 24 graduating students of the Centre, marking this day as a significant milestone in the academic life of the students and IGTC, Chennai.
The Chairman of the Southern Region Council, IGCC, Mr. Ranjit Pratap proposed the vote of thanks to the dignitaries who honoured the event with their presence and shared their valuable insights with the students. He appreciated the support extended by the Ambassador, the Chamber and the partnering companies for their continued patronage and encouragement of the activities of the IGCC and IGTC.
The event concluded with an informal interaction between the dignitaries and the gathering of students, academicians, sponsors, members of partner organizations, over a sumptuous dinner.
Inauguration of the premises of the Indo German Training Centre, Chennai – April 26, 2010
The Centre recently underwent a complete refurbishment of its premises and was formally inaugurated by H.E., the German Ambassador to India, Mr. Thomas Matussek in the presence of the German Consul-General, Mr. Hans-Burkhard Sauerteig, the Director-General of IGCC, Mumbai, Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke, the Chairman of the Southern Region Council, IGCC, Mr. Ranjit Pratap, other members of the IGCC and IGTC fraternity, including students and faculty.
While Professor Lakshmi Chand briefed the gathering on the Centre’s activities, including a special emphasis of the unique feature of IGTC PGPBA program that offers a unique 6 month internship with theoretical learning, which was also endorsed by Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke, Ambassador Matussek highlighted the important role that the Centre and the Chamber plays in fostering bilateral relations between India and Germany.
The brief ceremony included an informal interaction between the dignitaries and the gathering of students and academicians over tea.
